Obviously Light Fighters are still a very useful ship to use as cannon fodder in raids to protect cargos/other ships, but are Heavy Fighters and Cruisers really worth it? Heavies seem to have to high a metal to chrystal ratio to be worth using as fodder. And of course cruisers are good for taking out fighters but so are battlecruisers. What are your guys opinions?

The 3 ships that you need to have in great number is
1. light fighters
more they are more they are destructive
2.Small cargo
Small cargo capacity but high speed so more they are you get an advantange transport lot of resources very fast.
3.Battle cruisers
Good ships very powerful attacking fire, they do consume lot of resources but they act as great defences.
Don't forget to fleet save

I've been contemplating trying to put together a cruiser/battlecruiser combo just to see how it might turn out. Haven't actually gone and done it yet but it might be interesting.

I know if you are going to be going on expeditions I would reccomend heavy fighters and large cargos. Several people I have talked with send about 100 hf and 80 lc so if they find the max of 2 mil of res they can collect it but with 100 or so hf that will take care of pirates and at least draw with most pirates.

I like cruisers, because they have rapid fire against rocket launchers. Most users have a lot of rocketlaunchers, so with the rapidfire of cruisers they are soon goon ! Also destroyers are handy when a attackingfleet comes with a lot of battlecruisers, only negative is that destoyers are a bit slow and consume a lot of deut when flying.

Cruisers are really overlooked in my opinion. Not only are they useful against RL's (which make up the bulk of peoples defs in this uni) but they're the only ship other than the DeathStar that have RF against LF.
Considering that most big fleets are composed of large numbers of LF's, it's a win/win situation. If your the one attacking then those cruisers will really help against the others players mass of RL's. If someone is attacking you then those same cruisers can really help thin out that big LF screen most fleets use.
Of course cruisers like every other ship need the support of other types. But their still vitally important considering that most of the fodder people tend to use consists of either RL's or LF's which are the two things that the cruiser has RF against.

Nope. BC's have RF against HF's but not LF's.

Thats amusing seeing as it gets 7 rf against the bs. You say most peopl use lots of light fighters but I have been attack a few time and have attacked serveral times and niether I nor the people I am attacking use lf mostly cruisers or bs as fodder.

Back shortly before Christmas, during our war with [M K D] a player attacked one of our members, Blackhayate, and so he requested ACS Defense to help him out. Well, as luck would have it I only had a couple of Battleships, not exactly the kind of thing you want to try and fight off 40 Destroyers with. However, one of our Knights, Mickie James, came blazing in with 1,000 Light Fighters, single-handedly destroying all 40 Destroyers with less than 100 Light Fighters lost, and her Weapons, Shields, and Armor were all two or three levels lower than the attacker, so if you're like me and you build a few thousand Light Fighters, don't let people make you feel stupid for it, because believe me, you're not. ^__^
